Wrestling Power
CHIKARA: Action Arcade Wrestling feels more like a wrestling platform for players than a standard game. It contains features that should excite both hardcore and casual wrestling fans that should entertain for hours on end. Built on the staple that is the Unreal Engine, Chikara delivers a fun wrestling experience that anyone can pick up and play. There's a simple control scheme using two primary buttons to unleash the action, online multiplayer, and a deep standalone creator mode that provides an extensive set of customization options that make Chikara the definitive interactive wrestling experience for the year and beyond.
Upon firing up the game, you're presented with a clean interface of options to either dive into an online or local match that loads quickly into the action. There's also a tutorial mode that breaks down the available option that the game provides, including powerups and signature moves for the default roster.
There's a nice mix of wrestling tropes to pick from, but you'll most likely want to access the custom wrestlers that are created by players, with a generous daily download limit of 60. The creative options are a wrestling fan's dream when it comes to designing whoever you want to be in the game. Within the wrestling factory, which is available as a free download, players can create characters using images as textures for the clothes, face, ring, accessories and more – all available in a simple interface to smooth the uploading process. In my time with the game, I download John Cena, Triple H, Batman, Ironman, and many more across the entertainment spectrum. The top creations are also highlighted upfront as well, so you get to see the best-voted creations and download them within a few button presses.
Gameplay wise, Chikara AAW deliveries a fluid experience with no glitches experienced in my time with the PC version. There are also plans to deliver the experience to consoles as well, which will make for a great time in the future.
What Chikara provides, it provides very well. There isn't much that takes away from the overall experience, which is excellent as the game is intended to be very replayable. I recommend wrestling fans check it out and enjoy the ease when adding more custom characters to the excellent default rosters of wrestlers to choose from in the game.
