I love this game!

Beyond Good & Evil will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network later next year. Titled Beyond Good & Evil HD, the digital release of this truly awesome game will run at 1080p resolution and will feature updated character models, higher-resolution textures and a remastered soundtrack.

No release date or price yet, but let's hope it's early 2011 and a fair price. I can't wait!

Zombies FTW.

I've played a few hours of Dead Rising 2 so far, and I'm really impressed with all the tweaks they made to the original formula. The combo items are all varied and fun to use, and the sheer number of zombies roaming around makes things hectic while still being fun. Most of time with the game has been in Co-op mode too. Online play was surprisingly smooth, although for a while when my co-op partner would save, I would get removed from the session. It seemed to improve after an hour so, and since then I haven't been kicked out.

I also played a few matches in Terror is Reality, the game's competieve mode. In TIR your goal is too complete a task of minigames and rack up a nice score against three other players. There are 9 events, and usually one match will consist of 4 or 5 to compete in.

Campaign wise, I've haven't gotten too much into that since I want to level up some more, but once I get more speed to trek across Fortune City faster, I'll start the hectic case by case schedule the game demands.

So far Dead Rising 2 is great, and I can't wait to play more. Look out for a review in the near future!

Hydrophobia is this week's arcade release. The game features gameplay elements that involve using water to your advantage against the enemies. It's looks pretty cool, but will set you back 1200 MSP. Check it out below:

"Hydrophobia™ is an experience unlike anything you have played before. This jaw dropping technology models flowing water which behaves completely realistically, resulting in the most dynamic and dramatic gameplay you’ve ever seen. Engage in mind blowing “flow combat” where emergent gameplay results in a never-the-same-twice experience. Unleash floating oil fires, electricity and the power of the water itself to wipe out your enemy as you discover the terrifying truth of the Malthusian agenda; Save the World, Kill Yourself."

The newest Borderlands DLC is now available and focuses on Claptraps all around Pandora teaming up. Will you be able to stop them?

"To combat second hand sales of used munitions among greedy, haggling treasure hunters on Pandora, the Hyperion Corporation have decided to activate the Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap. Instead, it has organized all of the claptraps into a revolution, and they’ve been assimilating all life on Pandora and converting them into claptraps. With our heroes caught in the middle, they must stop the Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap in order to release his control over all of Pandora’s claptraps and collect their reward, of course."

Another week is behind us, so its time to enjoy the weekend! This is what I'll be playing:

It's still all about Halo: Reach this weekend for me, but I'll stop for a bit to play Sonic Adventure and Batman Arkham Asylum. Going through the same great game again for more gamerscore is pretty sweet. There's this awesome game coming out next week with Zombies that I may take a look at too...

Have a great weekend of gaming!

Demos for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Arcania Gothic 4 have arrived today on Xbox Live. I'm pretty interested in Enslaved, so I'll grab that first and try out Gothic 4 later. More details below:

"Follow a gripping, surprise-filled journey as two dissimilar characters form an uneasy partnership in order to survive through a perilous, post-apocalyptic America where few humans are left and nature has reclaimed the world. Play as Monkey, a strong brutish loner who has been captured by a mysterious slave ship. Trip, a technologically savvy young woman and fellow prisoner, hacks a slave headband and commands Monkey to help her get home. If she dies, he dies, and her journey has now become his."

"ArcaniA - Gothic 4 continues the successful "Gothic" RPG-Series. Ten years have passed since the end of Gothic 3 and the world has changed - the Southern Islands have become embroiled in a grueling conflict, and set the stage for the player to brave countless adventures in the guise of a nameless hero. In a vibrant and elaborate environment, decisions will have to be made which will change not only the future of the Southern Islands, but of the entire world."

Best Arcade game ever?

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero was great and offered hours of gameplay for only $5, and Dead Rising 2 is only a few days away. Downloads for the prequel impressed Capcom and they have recently announced Dead Rising 2: Case West. Case West takes place after the story of Dead Rising 2, and will feature co-op with players controlling Chuck Greene and Dead Rising alumni Frank West. Awesome! Let's hope the price will remain the same, since the low entry price really helped Case Zero get out to a wider audience.

As for Dead Rising 2, I am super excited. I still have my original copy of Dead Rising from 2007 when I got my first Xbox 360. It's been about a month too since I unlocked all the achievements, and I'm ready for more zombie action. Monday after class I plan on playing through Dead Rising and Case Zero one more time, just to be a bit more prepared.

Reach just came out, and Dead Rising 2 will be here soon. Man this has a been a great month for gaming!

Remember Reach. Begin the Fight.

Before we began our journey as the quiet and deadly Master Chief, Spartans were almost as common as the marines of the UNSC. They formed Elite squads that were ready for anything, but the Covenant proved to be more prepared and unleashed an all-attack on the planet Reach. Step into the shoes of Noble 6 and fight alongside the Spartans in Bungie’s last hoorah with Halo.

If you could only buy one FPS this year, it would be hard not to recommend Reach. Bungie has given us plenty of reasons to pop in the game long after the campaign is over.

Campaign

This full-fledged story details the events of Reach and showcased exactly what the Covenant were capable of. They all can prove to be a threat in combat; even the grunts will surprise you with their tactics. Elites are still a challenge, but any type of Covenant can get the upper hand of you and your squad. Take the fact that they no longer speak English and they really feel like a foreign threat to humanity.

If you don’t know the story of Reach, I won’t say anything about it so don’t worry; just know that you’re the new member of Noble team, and they aren’t exactly happy to have your company. If you want their respect, you’re going to have to earn it by proving your worth in battle.

With Reach, you can expect about 7-10 hours of a Normal playthrough, but it is very re-playable especially when friends join in and you activate a few skulls for some serious fun.

Credits, Challenges, and Customization

The great thing about Halo Reach is the customization of Noble Six, the Spartan you control. You can be male or female, which is acknowledged by the game, and any updates you make to your Spartan from the armory will be shown in the cinematics of the game.

No matter what you choose to do in Reach, credits (cR in the game) can be earned. The sole purpose of the credits is for saving up points to upgrade your Spartan’s looks, and make you look unique from many other players out there. Cooler effects like Firefight voices and armor effects will run you a nice number of credits, so completing challenges are a great way to earn them.

Think of the challenges as achievements you must complete in-game that reward extra cR. There are Daily challenges that give you 24 hours real-time to complete, and weekly one’s that will keep you busy, but offer up a greater amount of cR to earn. Commendations also offer up bonus cR, but differ from challenges since they have no limit on when you must complete them.

Forge World and Firefight

Halo 3: ODST introduced players to Firefight which was a great mode, but had a few lacking features like online matchmaking. That previous problem has been addressed with Reach, and the customization options now available to players ensure that Firefight has the ability to be played just as much as the competitive multiplayer.

Forge World itself is a multiplayer map.
What began as five separate maps has emerged into one huge map ready for plenty of forging to be had. No more tricks are needed to get objects to float, and you can even place objects inside one another with the phase option available. Sharing maps is now a bit easier and you can even download new map variants from inside Reach. The cool thing about forge world is that even just playing around the on the level is a ton of fun, and plenty of custom games with friends will keep you coming back.

Online Multiplayer

Bungie knows Multiplayer, and Reach shows the best of what they can do. The beta allowed them to take our feedback and improve on the multiplayer, and that’s exactly what they did. Finding matches is quick and easy, and even the interesting psych profile option to specify what kind of people you want to play with works pretty well. I have yet to even be T-bagged too! Joking aside, Reach’s multiplayer is a ton of fun, and gives the same feeling of online play that Halo 2 brought.

Conclusion

Halo: Reach is Bungie’s last Halo game, and they have left something for fans to enjoy for months to come. Bungie wants us to remember Reach, but never forget the guys who brought us a decade of awesome games.
